Rabbi Moishie and Mushky Glitsenstein moved to Royal Oak in September 2018 to open the Royal Oak Jewish Center, a branch of the Chabad Lubavitch movement. Together, they are dedicated to serving the individual needs of each of the city’s residents and building a community with a focus on young professionals and families.
Moishie was born in Eilat Israel, to a family of Chabad Emissaries. He attended elementary school and Yeshiva in Israel, moving later to New York to study in the Central Lubavitch Yeshiva near the Lubavitch Headquarters where he received his rabbinical ordination.
From a young age Moishie displayed a passion for volunteering, whether with Jewish children in summer camps, Israeli soldiers and a host of other roles. As a student he would spend his Friday afternoons visiting Jewish shopkeepers sharing with them a Jewish thought or the chance to put on Tefillin. As his studies grew so did his commitment to enriching the lives of Jewish people.
Born in Milwaukee, Mushky had the great privilege to be brought up in a family of Chabad emissaries. For high school she attended the Lubavitch high school in Oak Park, Michigan. After graduating Mushky was hired as the school’s extracurricular program coordinator.
From a young age Mushky assisted in her parents Chabad center with program planning, youth services and taught in their Hebrew school. Her love for nurturing Jewish children’s souls led her to spending all her summers as a day camp and overnight camp counselor in numerous Chabad camps.
